Every person I meet whether in business, at home or in a social setting communicates differently. Some talk with their hands, others with raised voices and still others with strong facial expressions.
As part of our focus on empowering and training up high schools students on their interview and public speaking skills, I listened to two rising seniors give unique presentations. Each spoke well but one was soft spoken and made limited eye contact, while the other spoke with energy and made excellent eye contact. Both communicated and had good skills but how can you improve your speaking skills?
One insight for improving your communication skills is to remember our worldview shapes how we communicate. Tony Robbins said “To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.”
